Arkansas Minimum Insurance Requirements
Drivers in the state of Arkansas are required to demonstrate proof of automobile insurance or a certificate of self-insurance issued by an Arkansas-authorized business. Proof must provide $25,000 to cover a driver’s legal obligation to pay for an accident that results in the injury or death of another party; $50,000 to cover an injury or death of two or more parties; and $25,000 to cover property damage.
Auto Insurance Penalties
Drivers who cannot demonstrate proof when requested (typically at an arrest or from within Arkansas Vehicle Insurance Database checks) receive a noncompliance notice. Should a driver have the legally required coverage, but neglect to demonstrate it when requested, the driver will be fined $25.00. If a driver can not demonstrate proof of the legally required auto insurance at all, the driver will (1) receive a notice of noncompliance, (2) lose the uninsured automobile’s license plate to impoundment, (3) receive a temporary sticker that’s effective for 10 days, and (4) suffer from registration suspension for 10 days.
Drivers may reinstate license plates and registration after demonstrating proof of a certificate of self-insurance or an automobile insurance policy and paying a $20 fee.
